Get ready for your first visit
WHAT TO EXPECT
Your first visit is a great chance for you to get to know our team and familiarize yourself with our modern facility. First visits take around one hour. This allows us enough time to evaluate your current oral health.
Your evaluation will consist of:
Full Mouth X-rays
We’ll take a full-mouth series that includes bitewings and a panoramic view. X-rays allow our team to see what is happening behind the scenes. We also check future X-rays against these so we can keep track of any changes.
The team at Bold Dental use digital X-rays for your comfort and safety. Digital X-rays emit less radiation and provide clearer images immediately. For wider-view X-rays, you only have to bite down on a small stick. These let us show you high-quality images in real time during your evaluation so you know exactly what we’re seeing.
Periodontal Readings
Perio probing helps us to fully assess your current gum health status and to diagnose any issues. The perio probe is a thin dental instrument with calibrated markings. We use the probe to gently measure the depth of the periodontal pockets, located between the gums and the tooth’s surface. Deeper pockets indicate gum inflammation, infection, and potential bone loss, all signs of periodontal disease. Healthy gums have shallow pockets.
Prophylaxis (Professional Teeth Cleaning)
Your hygienist can usually perform a prophylaxis at the first visit after we’ve conducted a comprehensive oral evaluation. However, the full evaluation is our priority for your first appointment to ensure we can accurately diagnose any looming dental issues and treat them. If we discover you have periodontal problems or gum disease and need scaling and root planing, we will schedule your professional teeth cleaning for a future date.
Wrapping Up Your First Visit
Dr. Williams will present his overall findings from your evaluation so you’re 100% aware of the current state of your oral health. He will then discuss all concerns and goals you have when it comes to your smile and provide recommendations to help you enjoy a healthier smile.
